Wednesday .10 inches of rain had fallen. How about those Lady Wol verines! The girls track team won the state championship, and Karen Godlock breezed past two state records by the huge margins of 11 and 25 seconds! Then the girls softball team won their first ever conference title behind some spectacular offensive and defensive play. Their first round game in the state play-offs was rained out Tuesday and was to be played Wednesday afternoon at Har mon field, rain or shine. N C 28782 No Bulletin Monday There will be no Tryon Daily Bulletin published Monday, May 27 because the post office will be closed for the Memorial Day holiday. The deadline for Tuesday's Bulletin will be Friday at 11 a.m. Causby Decides To Stay In Polk Polk County Schools Supt. James F. Causby has decided not to seek the Buncombe County Public Schools superin tendents job. Dr. Causby called various public officials on the phone Wednesday morning, and called a staff meeting to announce his decision. "It is just not for me," he told the Bulletin. "This is where we want to stay." Causby was one of two final ists, but said he had called the Buncombe School Board offi cials to say that he wouldn't return for a second interview, which was to be scheduled this week. Causby said he wanted to see the projects underway now in Polk County through to com pletion. Polk County Schools are cur rently building a new high school, renovating two other buildings, merging four schools, and rewriting the high school curriculum. Contestant Sandy Ravan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Ravan of Lan drum, has been chosen as a contestant in the South Carolina Miss T.E.E.N. pageant. The contest will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Greenville, S.C. on Saturday, June 15 at 7:30 p.m. Lynch Graduates Kimberly S. Lynch, daughter of Dr. Larry Lynch of Roanoke, Va. and Mrs. Donna Anthony of Columbus, was among 320 seniors receiving degrees from Roanoke College during com mencement ceremonies held on May 4. She received a bachelor of arts degree with a major in sociology. Lynch was graduated from Polk Central High School. Community Reporter 2Hf Per 1 ops Landrum Takes Second In 1A The Landrum Lady Cardinals finished second in the South Carolina 1A championships held in Columbia Tuesday. The Lady Cardinals finished with 56 points, behind John sonville, which had 82. Robin Robertson repeated as the state high jump champion with a jump of 5' 1/2", and was third in the 100. She also ran on the winning 400 relay team (50.9 seconds) with Michelle Simpson, Shana McDowell and Leslie Lewellyn. Nicole Hardin won the 300 low hurdles in a career best time of 46.94 seconds. Others who placed for Lan drum were Caroline Greene, who was second in the high jump; Denise Gosnell, who was third in the 100 high hurdles, and Simpson, who was fourth in the 200. In the boys competition, Michael Jackson finished fourth in the 400. An Eagle Flew Over The T.C.C. On Saturday, May 18 Harry Thompson saw an eagle land when he sank his chip shot for a 3 on the 446 yard par 5 7th hole at the Tryon Country Club. He used a driver, 3 wood and chipped in for his eagle. Need less to say Harry was very pleased with this. He was play ing with his wife, Carol, and witnessed by Bertha Russell and Edwina Watson.
